Youth battle plan

By Alison Noonan
Councillors agreed at Tuesday night’s council meeting to meet with all Casey youth workers to discuss the many problems facing young people.
Mayfield Ward councillor Kevin Bradford proposed the forum, claiming he wanted to hear the issues “straight from the horse’s mouth”.
“There has been a lot of talk about youth issues in the media and we had a fantastic talk from youth worker Les Twentyman,” Cr Bradford said.
“We have an active and progressive youth department in Casey and I think it is important that, as councillors , we speak to the staff who are actually out there dealing with the kids.
“They are the feet on the ground,” he said.
Cr Bradford described the meeting as a chance for councillors to listen to the workers on the street and create better council policies.
“I personally want an opportunity to speak with the workers on a one on one basis in an open forum,” he said.
“I want to hear their views, ideas and the problems our young people are facing.
“This is another phase of sorting out youth issues in the area.”
