IMPROVEMENTS at a Clyde North power station will make the electricity supply in Cranbourne homes and businesses more reliable.
A $400 million capital works program by SP AusNet at the Clyde North substation aims to ensure the network can supply power to residential and commercial customers with greater reliability and also meet future growth.
The substation supplies electricity to Clyde North, Cranbourne East, Cranbourne, Cranbourne North, Devon Meadows, Five Ways, Junction Village, Tooradin and Berwick.
SP AusNet manager, communications and media, Louisa Graham, said the work would also help protect against unplanned power outages and provide the capacity to minimise the impact on the community when they do occur.
“This major component of works will be completed in late August and will significantly boost our capacity to provide electricity to customers more reliably, especially during times of peak demand such as summer,” Ms Graham said.
The local population serviced by the Clyde North Substation, both residential and commercial customers, is expected to increase by 3000 to around 15,000 by the end of next year.
Project completion is expected late this year.
