Woman assaulted in street attack

A HAMPTON Park woman was indecently assaulted as she walked to work in the early hours of the morning last week.
The 42-year-old woman was walking along Somerville Road in Hampton Park about 6.20am on Tuesday, 4 July when she noticed someone following her.
Police said at the time she did not think anything of it as there were often people walking to work at that hour.
The woman crossed over Stuart Avenue towards the shopping centre near where she worked when she noticed a man on that side of the street.
As she walked in front of him, she felt his hands around her waist.
She then started screaming and fell to the ground and he fell on top of her and indecently assaulted her.
Police said the assault lasted about 20 seconds.
The man then got up and ran west along Somerville Road.
He was described as in his late 30s or early 40s, wearing jeans or work pants, with short dark hair, of olive complexion, about 161 centimetres tall and of stocky build.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact Detective Senior Constable Steve Regnier at Cranbourne CIU on 5995 4577 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
