The Federal Government has issued the medallion as part of the 60th Anniversary of Victory in the Pacific. It will be available to all surviving Australian WWII veterans, widows and widowers as at 8 May 2005. Allied and British Commonwealth veterans, widows and widowers who were residents in Australia on that day will also be eligible.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne said the Department of Veterans Affairs had contacted many eligible veterans in Holt but urged those who have not been contacted to ring the medallion hotline on 1300 665 706.
Mr Holt will host a medallion presentation ceremony at the Cranbourne RSL on Monday 15 August.
