A SCIFI television program inspired a Hampton Park Secondary College student’s own attempt at time travel.
Year 12 Systems and Technology student Michael Pace put his science fiction knowledge to the test with his genius invention, the ‘Stargate’ control unit.
Based on the American television show ‘Stargate SG1’, Michael said he spent the entire year designing and building the model for a school assignment.
The unit is computer controlled and consists of a spinning wheel that flashes a bright blue light upon turning full circle.
He said the project required students to build a model that was both mechanical and electronic.
“My love for the show Stargate inspired me,” he said.
Michael said his creative juices would continue to flow long after high school, hoping to take up a career in engineering.
“I would love to go on to Tafe and perhaps university to study electronic engineering,” he said.
Teacher Trevor Thomas described his bright young student’s invention as brilliant.
“Everyone that has seen it has been very impressed,” he said.
