Road set to be sealed

– Sarah Schwager
DEVON Meadows’ hazardous Devon Road has been listed on Casey council’s annual construction program to upgrade unsealed roads.
Balla Balla Ward councillor Colin Butler said Devon Road had long been an issue for its residents, who signed a petition in August urging for the road to be resurfaced.
Cr Butler said the residents were happy to contribute to the cost of the resurfacing, which they were required to do in council’s special charge scheme at a maximum of $8380 per household.
He said council would most likely contribute 75 per cent of the total cost.
After the motion to include Devon Road in the program at the council’s 20 December meeting, the next step will be a public meeting explaining the process of the special charge scheme for the construction of the road.
Cr Butler said he hoped the construction would be given the go-ahead by the time funding becomes available on 1 July.
In the petition, residents said the road caused damage to their vehicles, was muddy and slippery, and detrimental to their businesses, with customers and clients aware of the poor road conditions.
Residents said the road was primarily being damaged by semi-trailers using the road.
Devon Road will join other unsealed roads in the area to be upgraded in the next year, including Dalmore Road, Browns Road and Robinsons Road.
These roads will be referred for consideration in the Forward Capital Works Budget when the schemes are adopted.
