Public can help catch thief

POLICE are seeking public assistance to catch a brazen thief who robbed two local youths outside a McDonald’s restaurant.
The two youths, aged 15 and 16, were in the car park of the McDonald’s in Lyndhurst when they were approached by a man, who they described as being of Islander or Maori descent.
The offender demanded the youths hand over their mobile phones and then patted down each victim and stole a small amount of cash.
The offender was described as being in his 20s, about 185cm and wearing a distinct red basketball singlet at the time.
Police are appealing for more information
