A RUNAWAY driver kept police on his tail from Frankston to Cranbourne on Monday.
A Frankston man, 50, driving a white Holden ute was detected driving with registration plates that did not belong to the car.
When police tried to pull the car over at about 2pm, the man gave chase through Carrum Downs and side streets to Cranbourne, attracting police helicopter tracking along the way.
Road works on the corner of Hall Road and Cranbourne-Frankston Road were the eventual hinder in the pursuit, causing one of his tyres to blow.
Police then arrested the man.
Sergeant David Collins from the Frankston Traffic Management Unit said he was surprised by the driver’s actions.
“He had false plates and the car was unregistered but he was a licensed driver,” he said.
“It’s not something we’d expect from someone his age.
“It wasn’t an overly high speed pursuit. He just doesn’t fit the normal criteria.”
The man will be charged on summons in relation to a number of traffic offences.
