Nightrider still ‘needed’

CASEY Council is still vying for a Nightrider bus to service the area, despite the announcement of the new Cranbourne Nightlife Shuttle Bus.
At last Thursday’s council meeting, councillors said that despite welcoming the new service, a Nightrider bus was still needed. Councillor Lorraine Wreford said it was an issue she was passionate about.
“The older youth in the city deserve to have a Nightrider bus service,” Cr Wreford said.
“The City of Casey outnumbers many other municipalities with young people. We need to get this request into the State Government and let them know we’re serious about this.”
The council will write to the Minister for Transport asking for a separate Nightrider service to Casey and inviting the minister to visit the area and see the issue first hand.
Cr Janet Halsall said people could not understand the issues faced in Casey and the size of the population without coming out to the area for themselves.
The council will also write to the minister welcoming the new Nightlife Shuttle Bus, which will meet Connex trains arriving in Cranbourne at 1.29am and 2am on Saturday and Sunday mornings and take passengers to Cranbourne West and Cranbourne East.
