Man in court over guard’s death

A CRANBOURNE North man has appeared in court charged with the murder of security guard Jason Gully.
Wally White, 25, faced court on Monday for a committal hearing.
Gully was trying to prevent a robbery at the Freccia Azzurra Club in Keysborough on 28 November, 2004, when he was shot in the head and chest.
He died in the Alfred Hospital the next day.
White was charged with murder and armed robbery.
Brothers John Kohunui, of Springvale South, and Tame Kohunui, of Carrum Downs, were also charged with murder, armed robbery and unintentionally causing death in the course of a crime.
Police allege the three, along with another man, Marc Herbert, of Bentleigh East, robbed the club of more than $30,000 on Melbourne Cup Day.
Police allege the Kohunui brothers’ mother, Moya Biddle, of Carrum Downs, helped her sons evade police.
She appeared in the committal hearing on Monday and her matter was adjourned until 10 April.
White’s sister Vanessa White, of Dandenong North, and her de facto partner Benjamin Talanoa, 25, of Springvale South, were also charged with assisting the Kohunui brothers to avoid arrest.
Vanessa White reserved her plea and was committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court on 4 July.
Both women remain on bail.
