Hair support for therapy

y Sarah Schwager
CRANBOURNE South Primary School rallied around one of its teacher’s aides as she prepared to shave her head for a family friend.
Lyndall Lord decided to take off the locks in support of Narre Warren South two-year-old Abby Walker who is battling lymphoblastic leukaemia and must undergo costly chemotherapy.
The school last week ran a Crazy Hair Day to raise money for Ms Lord’s head shave to go towards the youngster.
Students shaved and coloured their hair into crazy styles and wore wigs and other hair accessories.
Senior school teacher Karen Halket said the school community decided it was a very worthy cause and so her class ran the event as a community experience project.
Each of the students in the class had to organise a different aspect of the event to get the other grades involved. They even had a publicity officer.
“It was a whole school event,” Ms Halket said.
“We started with a big parade. They all looked fantastic. The judges then gave prizes to the most creative styles.”
Ms Halket said all the children were also aware of why they were raising the money.
Little Abby was not the only one without hair this week as all her immediate family, friends and members of the Narre South Lions Junior Football Club shaved their heads last Sunday to raise money for her treatments.
