Council plans for the future

THE winds of change blowing through Cranbourne are about to reach gale force.
A draft copy of the Cranbourne Community Plan, designed to capture the ‘thoughts, feelings and aspirations of people who work, live and visit’ the area will soon be considered by Casey council.
The draft plan has been prepared over the past 18 months by the council’s Cranbourne Community Planning team and aims to engage and empower the local community to identify and work on its own issues.
A number of community consultations targeting all aspects of Cranbourne have been undertaken and the information compiled was used to develop key themes, objectives and potential actions.
The six themes developed in the draft report were; active and healthy, employment and lifelong learning, culturally rich communities, well designed communities, improving accessibility and strengthening prosperity within the community.
A number of objectives were listed under each theme and included improving access to medical services and promoting healthy eating and living, ensuring that all Cranbourne residents can access their desired level of employment and education.
Under the culturally rich theme the plan encouraged the celebration of community, creativity and diversity through better promotion of existing events, while the well designed communities theme focused on road safety and traffic management.
The plan will also focus on ensuring that road infrastructure keeps pace with the rapid new residential development and that affordable housing options continue to be available.
The council will consider the draft plan at an upcoming meeting.
