Comedy goes to good cause

By Kelly Yates
NARRE Warren comedian Barb Joseph is performing at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival in Cranbourne and is using her comedy status to help raise funds for charity group, In my heart Serendib.
In my heart Serendib is a charity organisation for children in Sri Lanka run by Julie Capper.
Ms Capper said she was overwhelmed by the poverty and hopelessness in Sri Lanka.
“I wanted to do something so I decided to help in a small way and support some of the schools and an orphanage,” she said. “The great thing about this charity is we take the funds to them personally, we go directly to the kids.”
To raise funds during Ms Joseph’s show, refreshments such as soft drinks, chips, chocolate and nuts will be served, with all of the profits going to the charity in an effort to buy school shoes for children in Sri Lanka.
The aim is to raise enough money to buy 300 pairs of school shoes.
Owner of Berwick’s Let’s Unwine, Leon Horaczko, will be selling wine and champagne before the show and donating $3 from each glass sold to Ms Capper’s charity.
Mr Horaczko said he thought it was a worthwhile cause and said over the past three years, Let’s Unwine had helped different organisations raise over $40, 000.
Ms Joseph will be performing her show, Barb Joseph live in 3D, Divorced, Dating and Dangerous on 10 and 11 April at the Cranbourne Community Theatre, Brunt Street in Cranbourne.
Local guitarist Bill Coxhead will also be playing some tunes prior to the show. Pre drinks will be served from 7.30pm in the foyer. The show kicks off at 8pm. Tickets are $20 each.
Ms Joseph hopes that everyone at the show has a laugh.
“I want the audience to feel like they are having a girl’s night out,” she said.
