City’s flora display turns bronze

STUDENTS at Cranbourne’s Chisholm Institute have showcased Casey’s flora at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.
The students have created a display that shows the regions of the City of Casey through flowers and foliage.
The display, called Growing Together in Casey, featured at the show all last week.
The display won the City of Casey a Bronze Award for Best Retail Display.
A trophy was presented to Casey mayor Colin Butler at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
Cr Butler said council staff had helped students with the project, which he said illustrated Casey’s various geographic elements including the rural region, coastal area, urban fringe and the foothills of the Dandenongs.
He said it also incorporated elements of conservation and water saving principles.
“The partnership between the City of Casey and Chisholm Institute on this project combines the city’s vibrant horticultural and rural sector and many opportunities in the region for training and development in a range of industries,” he said.
Cr Butler said Casey’s agricultural industries, from beef cattle to vegetable and flower growing, was becoming widely renowned.
“The popularity of the Casey Farmers’ Market… is testament to this, with local residents and others travelling from far and wide to sample our local and regional fresh produce,” he said.
