Churches unite for Easter

CRANBOURNE locals celebrated unity this Easter, marching through town to mark one of the most significant days on the Christian calendar.
The annual Good Friday Easter March saw record crowds from many churches come together.
Despite the overcast weather, residents marched down High Street along with the Salvation Army Cross band.
Schoolchildren from Lighthouse Christian College bore the heavy cross at the front of the march.
TurningPoint Family Church spokeswoman Julie Egan said each of the churches brought their own unique blend to the march with musical offerings from Hope Christian Church, TurningPoint and Crossway South Baptist Church.
She said the children were not forgotten with a puppet show performed at the first of the three stations of the cross, with gifts at each station.
“One very moving moment in the whole march involved a drama performed by Pastor Lee Kohler and (his daughter) Evangeline at Greg Clydesdale Square which brought a tear to many an eye,” Ms Egan said.
The public were then invited to lay flowers at a makeshift cross in memory of the death of Jesus.
Speakers for the day were Pastor David McClements from the Presbyterian Church, Archbishop Edwin Lang from the Anglican Church and Pastor Norma Cayzer from TurningPoint.
Locals stayed back after the march to listen to the music and enjoy the drinks and hot cross buns.
