A MAN threatened a woman and tried to steal her handbag in Hampton Park on Friday night.
Police said the woman was walking along Somerville Road about 8.30pm with a friend when a man ran towards her, grabbed her right breast and attempted to pull her handbag from her shoulder.
He then ran towards the Hampton Park Shopping Centre.
The woman and her friend then walked down Hallam Road towards the Hallam Railway Station and the man returned with a knife.
He stood over the woman, threatening her with the knife and told her to give him all her money or he would kill her.
Her friend screamed and the man again fled.
Police found a mobile phone and cigarettes 20 metres from the incident, which they believe may have belonged to the man.
Any witnesses are urged to contact the Frankston Embona Taskforce on 9784 5543.
