Upgrade underway

THE first sod was turned on one of the biggest school building upgrades in the state last week.
Police Minister and Lyndhurst MP Tim Holding dropped into River Gum Primary School on Friday to kick off works on the $4.16 million improvements.
The Hampton Park Primary School is set to undergo a major revamp, including eight new permanent classrooms, an extension to the existing library, PE facility, specialist music teaching area and two additional classrooms, stores, new student toilets and a canteen.
“This is an important day for the local school community and the beginning of an exciting future for River Gum Primary School,” Mr Holding said.
“They can start to see the results of their vision for the school.
“The sizeable funding awarded in this year’s budget will allow the dream of parents, children, teachers and staff to come true.”
River Gum Primary principal Ken Stallard said the school’s innovative new design would inspire creative teaching and learning.
“The school council has been planning this upgrade for more than five years and is delighted to be able contribute more than $300,000 of school funds to ensure the best for River Gum students,” he said.
Mr Stallard said the school community would enjoy working and learning in the “wonderful new facilities for many years to come”.
