Twilight market a glowing success

THE Hampton Park Twilight Market last week was a trading success as locals flocked to the meet to pick up a bargain.
Stalls, an auction, a DJ, activities for the kids, sausage sizzle and free showbags were just some of the drawcards at the market last Wednesday.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley and Casey councillor Wayne Smith turned up for a look, while Hampton Park Community House volunteers manned the trash and treasure stand, local Peter Tullis was DJ and had market-goers rocking with all his own equipment, while kids were entertained with prizes and games.
The Girl Guides and Scouts helped out, as did the Lions Club, Casey Life church, Rotary Club and Curves Gym, while the Hampton Park Progress Associations helped with location and table set-up and First National Real Estate gave out free showbags.
Hampton Park Networking Group president Vanassa Gerdes said the excellent turnout, with more than 300 people, was a measure of how things were progressing in the suburb.
“People have nothing to do on a Wednesday night with daylight savings,” Ms Gerdes said.
She said the group was looking into running the twilight market as a regular event but would see how much support it had.
The market runs in the countdown to the Hampton Park Festival, which this year will be held on Sunday 2 December, the networking group’s last project for the year.
Ms Gerdes said the Hampton Park Networking Group was making headways in the suburb.
“One of the most important assets Hampton Park has is the passion and dedication of its many committed residents, business, local clubs and community services, which have helped shape Hampton Park to what it is today.”
Ms Gerdes said next year was looking very positive for Hampton Park with many great projects, a community newsletter, community expo, mask ball, community website, lanterns in the town square, 2008 Festival and more.
She urged locals to volunteer to help put Hampton Park on the map and make it an even better place to live, work and socialise.
