SES busy in strong winds

By Rebecca Fraser
NARRE Warren and Pakenham State Emergency Service units received 60 calls for help on Tuesday night following strong winds in the Berwick and Beaconsfield area.
Berwick was plunged into darkness about 7pm and rural properties were strewn with branches and debris.
Allan Thompson of the SES said most of the calls related to property damage and fallen trees.
A power surge at Safeway supermarket in Lyall Road, Berwick left a shopper stuck in an elevator, but by the time the Berwick CFA attended, the doors had already been pried open and the stores backup generator turned on.
