New service gets down to business

A NEW sewerage and water service has been opened in Lynbrook, employing hundreds of locals.
Casey mayor Colin Butler officially opened the new headquarters last week of ‘us’ – Utility Services.
The service is an alliance between South East Water and Thiess Services and Siemens and provides water and sewerage operations and maintenance services across all of South East Water’s area as well as providing services to water authorities around Australia and overseas.
General manager Kevin Hutchings said the new offices and depot would enable the alliance to provide an even more efficient service to customers.
“We have been able to find great suppliers in the local area because of the growing business communities in Casey and Cardinia,” Mr Hutchings said.
“We now have more than 600 employees and contractors, with most of them living in the local area.”
The new building was built by local builder Lepat Australia Pty Ltd and completed in just five months.
The building features water conservation measures, including large rainwater tanks for toilet flushing and garden watering.
Mr Hutchings said water conservation affected all businesses and he hoped similar water saving initiatives were adopted by more organisations in the area.
“With the current water shortages across Melbourne it is essential that we have a central location in which we undertake our business,” he said.
“We are aware more than ever of our responsibility to reduce any loss from the system from burst water mains and leaking pipes. We now have a central location to respond to these incidents and save water.”
The new headquarters at 40 Commercial Drive, Lynbrook, also include a 24-hour-a-day call centre for a variety of services.
