In the saddle for golf club

MELBOURNE Cup winning jockey Damien Oliver has swapped his silks for spikes after joining Cranbourne’s premier new golf course.
Oliver will act as ambassador as the number one member and face of Settlers Run Golf and Country Club in Cranbourne South.
Winner of two Melbourne Cups, four Caulfield Cups and two Cox Plates, Oliver has also gained international acclaim, riding in Hong Kong, Ireland and England.
When he is not on the track, his other great passion is golf and he said he looked forward to joining the club and being an ambassador.
“The first time I saw the design of the course and the Golf and Country Club I knew I wanted to be a part of Settlers Run,” Oliver said.
“To be chosen as an ambassador alongside the likes of Greg Norman is a huge thrill and I look forward to representing such a great facility.”
Settlers Run Club manager Jane Bell said the club was rapt at having one of Australia’s best known horseracing identities as ambassador.
“Damien has crafted a reputation of being the best in his field and that is also our aim for Settlers Run – to be among the best golfing facilities in Melbourne,” she said.
Settlers Run opened its doors in October after famous golfer Greg Norman drew inspiration from Melbourne’s renowned courses to create a dramatic, natural 18-hole championship golf course.
Individual, family and corporate memberships are now available.
