Hot rods ready to roar

CRANBOURNE will come alive with the roar of classic cars at the annual American GM Car Show this weekend.
Organised by the Lions Club of Blackburn North, the 31st car show and family day extravaganza will be held on Sunday at the Cranbourne Racecourse.
Visitors will be in awe of the 300 American GM Cars, including Cadillacs, Chevrolets such as ’55, ’56 and ’57 Camaros and Corvettes, Buicks, Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs complemented by some 30 vintage American motorcycles.
GM Engineering will be displaying some of its latest locally made export vehicles as well as the neo classic Excalibur roadster and the unique Stutz coupe, a sister car to that owned by Elvis Presley.
Lions Club member Bob Beard said trophies would be awarded to exhibitors for the major Red Plate event.
“Over the past 30 years, we have taken this event all around the state and it has never failed to attract both families and car enthusiasts alike,” he said.
“We would also welcome members of the Cranbourne district the opportunity to display their American classic car on the day, for just $10.
“We look forward to a lot of people attending and enjoying a familyfriendly day.”
The Cranbourne and Blackburn North Lions Clubs will cook up a storm to feed the masses and a variety of entertainment has been planned including live music and singers, jugglers, stilt walkers, dancers, market and trade stalls and interactive displays.
Public entry is $8 per person or $25 for a family ticket. Children under 12 are admitted free.
Dogs are strictly prohibited.
The first 1500 people through the gates will receive a free show bag.
All proceeds from the day will be going to Lions Club endorsed community projects.
