Crowds greet boat festival

By Alison Noonan
A RECORD crowd set sail to the Warneet and Western Port Classic Boat Festival on the weekend.
More than 1500 boating enthusiasts made the most of the fine summer weather to visit the two-day event at the Warneet Motor Yacht Club and foreshore.
Visitors were able to view classic and historic boats — both on land and water — and memorabilia, including photos, pictures, replicas and models of traditional boats.
There were also commercial fishing and maritime equipment displays as well as water safety demonstrations and interactive workshops with boat builders and renovators.
Warneet Motor Yacht Club member Trevor Davidson said the event was a great success.
“It was the first time we had held it at Warneet.
“We have had nothing but positive feedback so we are absolutely rapt.
“It is just a great family event that is a great boost to the coastal villages,” he said.
The profits from the weekend festival will be shared among the Keeping Cancer at Bay charity rally, Warneet/Blind Bight CFA, the Westernport Marine Historical Society and the Warneet Motor Yacht Club.
