Council on the right trail

CASEY Council will match funding from Parks Victoria for bicycle and jogging trails.
Council was successful in receiving $217,750 State Government funding for the Doveton to Eumemmerring Trail, River Gum Creek Reserve to KM Reedy Reserve Trail and the Heritage Hills Wetlands Trail in Narre Warren.
On 3 August, Premier Steve Bracks announced the outcome of the Parks Victoria Metropolitan Trail Network funding program at Heritage Hills Wetlands.
Council originally asked for $372,750 to go towards the $794,000 trail development.
Councillor Janet Halsall said at last week’s council meeting that the success in receiving the funding was in response to the growing interest in cycling, jogging and walking.
“This is a clear indication of the increased interest in this form of recreation,” Cr Halsall said.
Council will contribute $228,333 to the three projects.
Research into the trail project showed that it would provide a number of health, social, economic and environmental benefits.
