Childish prank turns nasty

A DOVETON man has been arrested over an incident in which a father of two was threatened with a machete at a McDonald’s playground in Cranbourne.
Police said a 39-year-old Rowville man was in the playground at the Western Port Highway McDonald’s restaurant with his son and daughter, aged six and seven, while another man watched over his niece and nephew.
Police said the nephew was squirting “silly string” in the face of another child so the child’s father asked him to behave.
Witnesses said the uncle then walked to his car where he had a machete, concealed it down his pants and then came back and threatened and intimidated the Rowville man with the machete.
The incident happened at about 6.20pm on 22 July.
Last week, a 24-year-old Doveton man was arrested and remanded in custody on charges of threats to kill and weapons offences and will appear before the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court at a later date. Police are appealing for witnesses. Contact Constable Amy Virgona at Cranbourne Uniform on 5991 0600.
