Truck on for safety

FLINDERS MP Greg Hunt added truck driving to his list of talents when he took a spin as part of the Australian Trucking Association’s safety awareness campaign recently.
Local truck driver Kevin Fechner gave Mr Hunt a ride in his 18-wheeler livestock transport to see first hand the safety issues facing those behind the wheel of heavy vehicles.
Mr Hunt said the trip highlighted how all road users can contribute to improved road safety by sharing the roads responsibly with trucks.
“We rely heavily on the trucking industry to transport goods and it is important that it is undertaken in the most safe and professional way,” he said.
“It is also important that drivers are mindful of the heavy loads and cumbersome length of trucks sharing the roads.”
