Tennis tournament proposal is a hit

FOOTBALL has only just kicked off at Casey Fields but councillors are already pushing for a State Youth tennis tournament to be held at the multi-million dollar facility.
Casey deputy mayor Rob Wilson said the sporting complex was a credit to Casey and therefore should be further utilised.
Cr Wilson said the surface of the main VFL oval was fantastic and should be used for the lawn tennis competition.
“We could have the competition in January when there is no competitive football,” he said.
“We should be utilising this fantastic facility and trying to get extra events held there.”
Cr Wilson said the grass could be cut shorter for the tennis event and would have grown back by the time the football season started.
Casey CEO Mike Tyler said the council would have to discuss the issue with the Casey Scorpions as the football club had an agreement that it could use the facility for training from November.
Council officers will now investigate the feasibility of hosting a State Youth lawn tennis championship as an annual event after the motion was carried at Tuesday’s council meeting.
They will report back to councillors in June.
