Students address CFA funds’ drive

By Sarah Schwager
LYNBROOK Primary School students dressed in their best to raise money for their firie friends.
After seeing an article in the News on the Hampton Park Fire Brigade’s bid to raise funds for a new fire truck, the school’s parents and friends committee put together the fund-raising initiative.
In January, the News reported the Hampton Park CFA was trying to raise money to buy a much-needed new fire truck by offering fire equipment maintenance and upgrades to local factories, shops and office complexes.
Lynbrook Primary School recently held a free dress day and asked students to donate a gold coin, raising a total of $436. Parents and friends committee president Deborah Duane said the school has a few parents that were members of the brigade and had spent time over Christmas fighting the Gippsland fires.
She said because of this, the committee well understood the lack of resources that the brigade faced.
The school is already organising another free dress day to help raise more money. The committee is now asking schools in Hampton Park to all band together to help out their firefighters and each participate in the fundraising initiative.
“We will be contacting them to issue a challenge to see if they can raise more money than us,” Ms Duane said.
For more information contact Deborah Duane on 0422 111 804.
Hampton Park CFA fire equipment maintenance manager Chris Gomolis asked people in the community to help out by contacting the brigade and offering their support, whether by a donation or by signing on to the CFA’s new fire equipment and maintenance, including servicing hose reels, extinguishers, smoke alarms and fire blankets.
For more information or to request a CFA check at a business, contact the Hampton Park CFA on 9799 1980.
