Showbag for party safety

TO HELP combat party crashing and risky behaviour at parties, Casey police has developed a showbag for the hosts.
The bag is now available for free when locals register their PartySafe forms for an upcoming youth party.
Casey Youth Resource Officer Chris Atherton said he hoped parents would take more responsibility in their duty of care to underage guests when hosting a party and utilise the PartySafe showbags.
“These showbags are a fun way to tackle a serious issue and a proactive strategy packed with useful ideas,” Senior Constable Atherton said.
“Given the City of Casey has a very high youth population, numerous parties are held each weekend and this is another way for local police to keep on top of them.”
The introduction of the showbags follows the recent inception of the Casey Underage Alcohol Diversion program, a joint initiative between Victoria Police and South Eastern Alcohol and Drug Service (SEADS).
The diversion program gives police and local laws officers another option when dealing with young people who have committed alcohol-related offences such as underage drinking or being under age in a licensed premises.
Instead of simply issuing a fine, officers are able to divert young people and their parents into the two-hour education session.
However, Senior Constable Atherton said police remained committed to taking a tough stance on underage drinking and would charge and prosecute youths caught drinking if they did not fit the criteria for the diversion.
Parties need to be registered at least two weeks before the event.
