Fizzle back in sizzles

CASEY residents can now enjoy an old -fashioned street party without public liability concerns.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera this week welcomed a new State Government program to help residents hold street parties, sausage sizzles and local fundraisers.
Mr Perera said a $6000 grant is available to Casey Council to localise a street party kit, including advice on council planning permit requirements and public liability insurance.
“This kit will make it easy for neighbours and community groups to gather around a barbecue,” he said.
“The grant can also be used to meet costs of establishing and publicising the program, including printing costs and start-up administration expenses. I strongly urge City of Casey Council to take up this offer.”
Mr Perera said the funds could be used to buy equipment, including a barbecue, tables, chairs and street barricades.
“We can live happier and healthier lives in a safer neighbourhood if neighbours and friends get outside together, enjoy the summer weather and get active.
“Street parties help create new friendships and keep neighbours in touch. The portable barbecues will also be a bonus for groups holding working bees, tree plantings and community festivals,” Mr Perera said.
Minister for Victorian Communities John Thwaites said the kit would give people advice on council permit requirements and information about obtaining public liability insurance coverage.
