Council looks to the west

By Sarah Schwager
THE development of Cranbourne West is on its way after Casey council voted to form a steering committee to see the plan through.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said this was the beginning of another exciting project for the Cranbourne area.
The area encompasses 1400 hectares with the main parcel of land bound by Evans Road, Cranbourne-Frankston Road, Thompsons Road and the Western Port Highway.
Cr Bradford said much of the land would be made into a residential area and shopping precinct, with a good proportion to be used to create employment.
“This is going to create a large amount of jobs for the people of Cranbourne and the wider city,” he said.
The land in question is owned by 139 individual property owners, some with large and some with small allotments.
Cr Bradford said this meant a large part of the community would share in the plan.
The steering committee will be made up of the mayor of the day, the ward councillors and a representative of the landowners.
Cr Bradford said it would most likely be two years before construction starts on the project.
But he said the development would have many benefits for the City.
“A large amount of the population leaves the city every day, travelling on already clogged roads.
“This development will improve transport and alleviate the pressure on some roads.
“It is a very exciting project. This is the gateway into Cranbourne West,” Cr Bradford said.
