Council considers plastic bag ban

CASEY Council is looking at phasing out plastic bags across the city.
Last week the council decided to refer funds for consideration in the next budget for the distribution of reusable green bags through retail outlets.
If included in the budget, $120,000 a year for two years would go towards the project.
The issue came up at a council meeting in February with councillors increasingly concerned about how to reduce the five billion plastic checkout bags used in Australia each year.
In a council report about how to reduce plastic bags, it found the support of local retailers was critical in promoting a reusable bag promotion.
