CFA cancer cash stolen

FUNDRAISING money destined to help kids with cancer was stolen from Warneet CFA last week.
Members were devastated to arrive at the station on Monday (13 February) to find two cash tins containing the takings from the previous weekend’s Warneet Classic Boat Festival were gone.
Warneet CFA Captain Hans De Kraker said fire crews had volunteered their time during the two-day festival to hold a sausage sizzle to raise money for the Keeping Cancer at Bay charity rally.
He said they had raised about $1000, all of which was taken during the callous theft.
“Members came in on Monday to find the station door open and two cash tins gone. The television was still there so they obviously just came for the money,” he said.
Mr De Kraker said it was disheartening that someone would stoop so low as to steal fundraising money from a community organisation.
“We joined forces with the Warneet Motor Yacht Club on the weekend so we could try to raise as much money as possible for kids with cancer.
“But somebody decided they needed it more.
“Some of the money would have gone toward the purchase of a new support van for the station but that’s gone too.
“It hurts. It makes it that much worse when it’s for a good cause,” he said.
“We don’t have any idea who might have taken the money but it would be very nice to have it returned.”
