Boy, 8, burned in stove accident

AN eight-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital after he was burned with boiling oil from a stove top at his Tooradin home on the weekend.
The young boy was flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital with second-degree burns to his neck and back when the incident occurred about 2.45pm on Saturday.
He also suffered some facial and upper arm burns.
Metropolitan Ambulance spokesman Phil Cullen said family members put the boy under cold running water until paramedics arrived.
“Putting him under cool water was the right thing to do. The paramedics said the little boy was very brave and coped with the pain extremely well,” he said.
Mr Cullen said if burnt, it is important to hold the affected area under cold running water and wrap it loosely with a wet dressing.
“Remove the person from the source and cool the burnt area with water for 15 to 20 minutes.
“This can lead to a touch of hypothermia, so it is important to keep them warm.
“Do not apply creams, lotions or ointments to the burn. Instead, soak a dressing in water and wrap it lightly around the skin, and call 000,” he said.
