Awards’ credit flows through to staff

SOUTH East Water has won two awards at the prestigious Victorian Engineering Excellence Awards.
Two of the water company’s innovative new water-saving projects took out excellence awards for technology and for workplace innovation.
Acting chief executive Kate Vinot said the company was rapt, with employees demonstrating huge commitment and enthusiasm while working on the projects.
“Both these projects required a huge effort by South East Water employees over the course of their development,” she said.
“All the hard work and dedication has certainly paid off by winning these two fantastic awards.”
HydroShare, a unique web-based reporting system that monitors water usage and displays real-time information through users’ own websites, won the Engineering Excellence Award for Technology.
Brain Waves, which taps into South East Water’s employees’ innovative ideas, took out the Engineering Excellence Award for Workplace Innovation.
The Brain Waves Cup gives teams an opportunity to convert ideas into business plans with a cash prize awarded to the winner.
“In the current environment, these awards really highlight the wonderful work in which South East Water is involved and recognises our role as an industry leader,” Ms Vinot said.
“We are very excited to be delivering such exciting programs to our local community in HydroShare and Brainwaves. We will continue to exhaust all options when it comes to providing the highest possible level of service to our local community.”
The winning entries will now vie for an award at the National Engineering Excellence Awards 2007 to be held in Canberra in November.
