Two IR forums remain

CASEY residents have been urged to attend the last two public forums to explain and discuss the Federal Government’s new industrial relations laws.
Next Thursday, 18 May, a forum will be held at the old shire offices at the corner of High and Sladen Street, Cranbourne, from 8pm.
Casey councillor Michael Farley, who was behind the push for the forums, said previous meetings attracted between 30 and 35 people.
Frankston MP and Parliamentary Secretary to the Industrial Relations Minister Matt Viney is expected to be in attendance, along with Hastings MP Rosy Buchanan, Victorian Minister for Aged Care Gavin Jennings and a research officer from the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU).
The forums are designed to give residents the opportunity to ask questions of representatives from the Government, Opposition, political parties, and the ACTU regarding the new laws.
However, Cr Farley said he was disappointed many politicians from both sides of the fence had not attended the previous forums and said he hoped they would decide to attend the final events.
The last forum will be held at the Berwick Leisure Centre, Manuka Road, Berwick, on Thursday, 1 June.
