CASEY’S successful women’s soccer team has been honoured at a special civic reception.
The Casey Comets senior female soccer team were recognised last week for their outstanding success at an elite level after recently winning the Women’s Premier League Pre-Season Cup.
The win puts the Comets on track for a very positive season.
Casey mayor Colin Butler presented the team with a Certificate of Congratulations and each of the players and the coach received a small memento on behalf of the council.
The mayor described the Comets as a team of champions.
“The team includes players who have competed with both international and state honours as well three current junior state representatives,” Cr Butler said.
The Casey Comets, formerly the Cranbourne Comets, is one of the largest soccer clubs in the south-east and has 14 competing teams.
Team captain Jeni Black and vice captains Rachel Lamb and Leigh Terek have both played for Cranbourne for more than 10 years and coach Debbie Nichols formerly played for Australia.
The mayor wished the club all the best for the season.
“I am sure that the Comets will continue to be a major player in the Premier League and will give their club and community great pleasure and pride,” he said.
