A CANNONS Creek family is lucky to be alive after their house caught fire early on Saturday morning.
An adult and two children were asleep in the Hardy Avenue home when they awoke about 3am to the smell of smoke.
The fire started in one of the bedrooms, with police suspecting an electrical fault. CFA attended and managed to contain the fire to the front half of the house while the family escaped un-harmed.
The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
Detective Sergeant Larry Grimshaw from Cranbourne CIU said the family was lucky they managed to get out and with no injuries.
“There were no smoke alarms in the house,” Det Sgt Grimshaw said.
“They really are lucky that no one was injured.”
The fire caused about $50,000 damage.
“This incident relays the important message to make sure you have smoke detectors installed,” Det Sgt Grimshaw said.
