Carlson to make his mark on the Special Olympics

CRANBOURNE resident Mark Carlson left for China on Thursday to attend the Special Olympics in Shanghai.
Competing at his first Special Olympics campaign Mr Carlson is representing Australia in tennis.
The Outlook Foundation in partnership with Barnacle Bill, Ferntree Gully, is sponsoring Mr Carlson, an employee at the foundation’s recycling centre, after learning of his selection for the team.
Mr Carlson will join 127 Australians and 7000 athletes from 169 countries at the event.
This year Australia will send its largest team to represent Australia since competing in the Special Olympics.
The Australian team will consist of athletes from across Australia representing Ballarat to Bundaberg, Canberra to Kalgoorlie, Ballina to Berri, and Invermay to Bribie Island.
The Australian team will compete in 11 of the 27 sports at the games including Aquatics, Athletics, Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Sailing, Softball and Tennis.
The World Summer Special Games is on 2-11 October in Shanghai, China.
