A big splash

THE Cranbourne Aquatic and Leisure Centre is well on its way to being built with the design brief for the facility adopted by Casey Council last week.
On Saturday, council also began advertising tenders to select the main architect.
At last week’s council meeting, council decided to endorse the draft design brief, which listed the key components for the layout of the centre.
It included a competition pool with 10 lanes that will be 50 metres long, and spectator seating for 250 people, two leisure pools, one with beach entry, splash park and toddlers pool, and the other with water slides and games pool, a hot water program pool with ramped entry, as well as a spa, sauna and steamroom.
The leisure centre would also have a weights and cardio room, two rooms for group fitness classes, a multi-purpose room for things like yoga, birthday parties or club meetings, a food and retail outlet linked to the main reception, wet and dry change rooms, a creche, and consulting rooms for service providers such as sports medicine, dietician or health and beauty.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said it would without a doubt be the best aquatic centre in Australia.
The centre is expected to cost $28 million, and will be located at the Casey Indoor Leisure Complex in Cranbourne.
