Seized hoon cars number hit 1000

MORE than 1000 cars have been impounded in Victoria since the introduction of anti-hoon legislation last July.
Already, 43 drivers have had their cars taken away from them in Casey.
Berwick and Hampton Park topped the municipality’s worst drivers, seven each of their residents having their cars taken away.
Cranbourne, Narre Warren and Endeavour Hills closely followed on five each. Dandenong was the highest in the state, with 22 people having the vehicles they were driving impounded, while Frankston came in second with 19.
A driver in Hampton Park was one of 20 in the state to be so bold as to re-offend and have their car impounded for a second time.
According to police statistics, just over half of the offenders were on their P-plates, and only one per cent, or 11 people, were female. The biggest age range of people to have their cars impounded was in the 18 to 21 bracket, with 150 18 year olds, 144 19 year olds and 110 20 year olds.
There were three aged just 15.
And 36 of the hoons were on their L-plates.
Two people were caught performing burnouts and one was caught fishtailing.
Frankston Traffic Management Unit Senior Sergeant Terry Bannan said that generally, hoons tended to offend outside their own communities and police would continue to target unruly driver behaviour.
“This legislation shows people that hoon activity will not be tolerated and has given police real “teeth” to come down hard on idiot drivers,” he said.
“We have absolutely no issue with taking cars away from drivers who demonstrate a complete disregard for their own safety and the safety of other road users.
“If you want to behave badly in a motor vehicle, don’t come to Frankston, you will walk home.”
