Pet snakes stolen

A PAIR of carpet pythons were stolen from a Cranbourne North home last week.
Police said the owner was particularly worried because the female snake was about to lay a clutch of eggs.
The snakes were a breeding pair worth about $1200.
Police said the burglars entered via the front door of the Lachlan Close house and removed the pythons from a large glass tank kept near the door.
The owner is concerned because the eggs should be laid around Christmas. Carpet pythons normally lay a clutch of up to 30 eggs. Babies sell for about $200 to $300 each.
Snake owners must be registered. Police urged snake buyers to be aware if contacted about carpet pythons for sale.
