MP still in the hunt for 500km walk

FLINDERS MP Greg Hunt has announced new dates for his 500km walk to raise money for a cure for juvenile diabetes.
Mr Hunt will begin the 19-day Walk for Chloe and Justin on 16 July at Arthurs Seat and finish on 3 August at Cowes on Phillip Island.
The charity walk, which will cover the entire Flinders electorate, was due to take place in April but was postponed after Mr Hunt fell ill with a viral infection.
Mr Hunt spent months planning the event with dozens of local schools and community groups and said he was pleased to have been able to reschedule the walk within a relatively short space of time.
“For me there was a strong sense of responsibility, both to the diabetes community and the electorate as a whole,” he said.
“I am keen to do the walk as soon as possible and am excited about the fact that we are already on target to meet our fundraising goal of $30,000.
“Around Australia, thousands of children are afflicted by type 1 juvenile diabetes, a terrible, chronic disease that has no cure.
“Chloe, an 11-year-old from Dromana, and Justin, a nine-year-old from Phillip Island, are two local children who are suffering from the effects of type 1 juvenile diabetes.
“Like so many other child sufferers, Chloe and Justin show incredible courage, strength and resilience in dealing with the day-to-day effects of this disease.”
All money collected through sponsorship, donations and community fundraising events during the walk will go directly to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
