Drive to strike a funds chord

THE Inner Wheel Club of Cranbourne is mounting its annual drive to raise funds for cord blood research.
Members have joined with all Inner Wheel Club’s in Australia to fundraise and present grants to medical researchers in the field of umbilical cord blood research to save lives.
Cord blood has a high concentration of marrow cells which are used in transplants for children with blood disorders.
Researchers are also investigating its use in the treatment of juvenile diabetes and helping to repair a heart after a heart attack.
The international women’s organisation has already raised more than $740,000 and presented 15 grants to researchers in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.
The grants will be used to assist research into new methods of blood collecting, transporting and processing.
Cranbourne Club members will be selling merchandise for the national project on Friday, 28 April at Centro Cranbourne Shopping Centre.
Coordinator Lorraine Coppard encouraged locals to support the worthy cause.
“We would like to see as many people as possible at the Cranbourne Shopping Centre on 28 April.
“This is our local effort to help give a sick child a second chance at life,” she said.
