Police take to the streets

POLICE will increase their presence on the streets of Cranbourne in an attempt to reduce street crime.
Senior Constable Alan Inderwisch from the Cranbourne Police Station said he had been given the go-ahead to head up a foot patrol unit over Christmas and possibly beyond.
The unit will run for five random days a week at any time of the day or night starting next Monday.
Sen Const Inderwisch said a group of police would walk the streets of Cranbourne, Hampton Park, Tooradin, Pearce-dale and the coastal communities on shifts.
“We are targeting street offenders and visiting licensed premises,” Sen Const Inderwisch said.
“We will also conduct foot patrols at local schools on weekends and after hours to combat the recent spate of burglaries and criminal damage at schools.”
The foot patrol unit will also be on the lookout for people committing traffic offences.
“The idea came about from talking to businesses, licensed premises and the public,” Sen Const Inderwisch said.
The program will run until mid-January, when it will be assessed.
