Copper theft on the rise

COPPER thieves stole 50 metres of the expensive metal when they broke into a Cranbourne factory recently.
Police said the offenders entered the Wagstaff Cranbourne abattoir sometime between 3pm on 5 October and 5am on 11 October and stole the material.
Sen Sgt Kaminski said the copper was quite heavy and it would have required several men to lift it into a truck or van.
He also said theft of the material was on the rise and warned people to be vigilant in securing any copper they may have.
“Over a period of time thefts of copper and copper wiring have increased in and around the Cranbourne area,” Sen Sgt Kaminski said.
Anyone with information regarding the theft or who may have been offered copper at a cheap price is asked to contact Cranbourne Police on 5991 0600.
