A CRANBOURNE North resident is fed up with loose gravel on a road, which he said is an accident waiting to happen.
Ron Mayne has appealed to VicRoads, local MPs and the State Government about a section of Thompsons Road in Cranbourne North, but he said nothing has been done.
“There are a lot of loose stones. It’s all broken up,” Mr Mayne said. “It’s like travelling on marbles.”
He said on warmer days, the dust stirred in the air, making it impossible to see the road. “School buses go down there. It’s pretty dangerous,” he said.
Mr Mayne said luckily no one had been injured, despite some accidents, but it was only time before something major happened.
“If someone is hurt or killed, it is just bad luck,” he said. VicRoads Metro South East’s regional manager, Steve Brown, said VicRoads had organised for the contractor to sweep the intersections of Thompsons Road and Lansell Drive and Thompsons Road and Gray Street last Friday to remove any loose stones.
But Mr Mayne said cleaning up the stones was a temporary fix for what was an ongoing problem.
“All they’ve got to do is put some bitumen down. How much is a life worth?” he said.
Mr Brown said VicRoads engineers would meet with the contractor on site this week to discuss a long-term solution for the problem.
