THE City of Casey is making 2007 its year for investing in local road improvements.
Mayor Colin Butler said the council wanted to ensure Casey’s roads were safe and enhance the flow of traffic.
Almost half of council’s $42 million 2006-07 capital works program will go to construct local roads.
Current projects include:
• Ormond Road upgrade, Hampton Park
The final stage of this upgrade is complete with traffic now able to travel freely along Ormond Road from River Gum Creek to Hallam Road on a separate through traffic lane.
• Glasscocks Road construction, Cranbourne North
Council has let the contract for construction of Glasscocks Road from Norwegian Way to Sherwood Avenue. When constructed, the road will provide an alternate access to Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road.
• Cleopatra Drive construction, Cranbourne
Council has let the contract for construction of Cleopatra Drive to Majestic Boulevard in Cranbourne. The road will link the new estates of Park Avenues and Carlyle Park.
• Cross Road and Browns Road sealing, Devon Meadows
Council has let a $2.1 million contract for construction of Cross Road from Browns Road to Worthing Road, and Browns Road from the South Gippsland Highway to Craig Road in Devon Meadows. The project includes construction of three roundabouts along Cross Road and traffic calming treatments along Browns Road.
• Shared path construction
Council is also investing $1.5 million in new shared paths. The following paths have just been completed:
– Baxter Tooradin Road, Pearcedale (Gracemere Drive to Pearce Court);
– Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, Cranbourne (Kingdom Drive to Brindalee Place);
– River Gum Creek, Hampton Park (James Wyman Place to Meredith Crescent).
Roads are top of the agenda
