Residents to the foreshore

TOORADIN residents can have a say in how the foreshore reserve is managed.
The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) is encouraging residents to express their interest in becoming voluntary members of the Tooradin Foreshore Reserve committee of management and play an active role in managing the future of the reserve.
The reserve is a 1.5-hectare coastal strip along Sawtells Inlet, between Lyall and Swan streets.
DSE coast action and coastcare facilitator Denis Cox said committee members would help to ensure the local community got the best out of the coastal reserve, and that it was protected for future generations.
“The foreshore has significant regional recreational, tourist and environmental values and the beauty of this coastal strip is highly valued by the local residents and visitors,” Mr Cox said.
Members bring their local knowledge, passionate interest and a range of skills to the committee, ensuring future development and conservation projects represent the values and interests of the community and the guiding principles of the Victorian Coastal Strategy.
Residents interested in becoming part of the Tooradin Foreshore Reserve committee of management can call Sarah Wordsworth on 9296 4515 for a nomination form and information kit. Expressions of interest are due by Friday, 29 September.
