A MAN impersonating an undercover police officer has pulled over a Cranbourne teenager and stolen his driver’s licence.
The 18-year-old was targeted as he drove along Camms Road in Cranbourne on Saturday 8 April.
The incident has prompted police to urge motorists to be wary of people pretending to be police officers.
Detective Sergeant Larry Grimshaw of Cranbourne CIU said the driver had been high beamed by another car before pulling over about 9.40pm.
He said a man then approached the car and said he was an undercover police officer, before he asked to see the Cranbourne resident’s licence.
“The boy has given him the licence and he has then said he would go and do some checks on his computer but has instead driven off,” he said.
Det Sgt Grimshaw said the man told the boy that his first name was Peter.
He was driving a white Ford Falcon at the time.
“If anyone is uncertain if they are intercepted by police, they should request to see suitable identification as everyone carries this,” he said.
Anyone with any information on the incident can contact Cranbourne Police on 5995 4681 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
